Botox

Facial lines are common among many individuals, and you probably have them due to various reasons. As you age, the production of collagen decreases, and your skin forms more aging lines. Muscle contractions such as squinting, raising eyebrows, and frowning also cause facial lines. At MOC health + beauty, we have a treatment solution that gets rid of facial lines and evens out your skin. Botox® is most effective to eliminate facial lines that are visible with smilinglaughingraising the eyebrows, and lines around the eyes. These lines are caused by motion and tend to be less noticeable when your face is at rest.

What is Botox® Cosmetic?

Prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to temporarily improve the look of moderate-to-severe forehead lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines between the eyebrows in adults. Botox® can be used off-label for bands in the neck, forehead wrinkles, and excessive underarms sweating. Botox® is first and only treatment FDA-approved to temporarily make moderate to severe frown lines, crow's feet and forehead lines look better in adults.

Botox® Cosmetic History

The history of Botox® Cosmetic is a remarkable story of how a potent substance found in nature has been harnessed for both medical and aesthetic benefits.

Years ago, Allergan acquired a product called OnabotulinumtoxinA and saw its potential. The company conducted clinical trials and submitted the data to the FDA, which shepherded the product’s first approved therapeutic use.

How it works

Botox® Cosmetic works by temporarily weakening the specific facial muscles effectively preventing the area from creasing. Over-active muscles can cause lines that are present with motion and eventually these lines will stay even at rest. By weakening these muscles with Botox®, we can lessen the number of apparent lines. In a brief visit, we can begin the process of reducing and eliminating aging signs

BEFORE THE TREATMENT

1. Am I a good candidate for this treatment?

The best candidates are those ranging in the age of 25 to 65. Those in the age range of 65 and over may have lines that are present at rest and other procedures would best benefit those, however, each individual is different which is why each person should undergo a consultation in order to determine the most effective treatment plan.

Not everyone can benefit from a jaw reduction using Botox. If you have particular lifestyle habits that constantly increase the size and strength of the masseter muscle, then the injections might not work well. This means chewing gum or dried foods on a daily basis. If you have dental problems such as chronic tooth grinding, then there could be issues. Our Doctor will need to personally assess whether your muscles, health and habits are a good fit for the procedure.

2. Are the Botox Injections painful?

The injection is made with a very tiny needle and each injection is a small in volume that usually does not cause discomfort. The pressure caused by the injection is present for a small moment and goes away very quickly allowing you to resume normal activity immediately afterward.

3. Do I need to do anything to prepare for the treatment?

It is best to avoid aspirin, ibuprofen and all other NSAIDS for two weeks prior to the procedure, It is helpful to eat a lot of leafy greens and celery prior to the appointment, as it will increase the levels of vitamin K, a known bruise preventer/reducer

AFTER THE TREATMENT

1. How will I feel after my treatment?

Immediately after a Botox injection you may see tiny bumps at the injection site. These bumps go away after about 10 minutes. Some patients experience mild bruising that can be covered with makeup.

2. How long does Botox last?

The effects can last from 6 to 11 months based on the patient's rate of aging (i.e., smoking, drinking, sun exposure, genetics) and fade gradually.

The results of a jaw reduction using Botox are not permanent despite some claims. Exactly how long the reduction will last for depends on many personal factors and is usually different for each person. The average length of time you can expect is around six months. The results could last for a year in some cases.

3. Are there any possible side effects?

There really are not any side effects when undergoing Botox injections. For jaw reduction, the one thing some people do notice is a little bit of weakness when attempting to chew food. This is a result of the Botox relaxing the masseter muscle. The weakness will not persist and usually goes away in a day or two.

4. Is there any downtime?

There is no downtime. You can return to your daily schedule immediately after your treatment.

5. Can I do anything after having Botox® to ensure the treatment works as well as possible?

Yes. Four hours after the treatment, you can begin to exercise the treated muscles by making facial expressions such as frowning, squinting or raising your eyebrows. This will help to work the Botox® into your facial muscles.
