Skin Resurfacing

Skin Resurfacing

Repair signs of skin damage for a smoother, healthier-looking complexion

Skin resurfacing is a treatment method that we use to eliminate any skin irregularities that you may have. Whether you have aging skin, facial lines, acne scars or blemishes; scars from surgery, striate, deep wrinkles, enlarged pores, and uneven skin texture.

How it works

We use Venus Versa™ device is cleared by the FDA - a NanoFractional Radio Frequency (RF) technology - non-invasive fractional skin resurfacing systems. It utilizes tiny pins attached to an applicator that creates micro-dermal wounds in the skin’s surface, through which heat, via radiofrequency energy, is delivered deep into the dermis. This treatment technique removes old layers of skin with precision, giving rise to new skin cells that make the skin appear younger and tighter. The procedure increases the production of collagen, which is essential in skin tightening. The result is a scarring reduction scar and an increase in collagen and elastin production and faster. Because the wounds are so small, downtime is very minimal—you can resume your regular skincare and makeup routine after only 24 hours.

BEFORE THE TREATMENT

1. Which technology do you use for my treatment?

Venus Versa™ features two applicators: the NanoFractional Radio Frequency (RF) applicator for procedures requiring ablation and resurfacing of the skin, and the DiamondPolar™ applicator for non-invasive wrinkle reduction*.

2. Am I a good candidate for this treatment? Will this treatment work for me?

Anyone can have the skin resurfacing treatment; the best candidate is someone who has an uneven complexion with signs of discoloration on their skin. However, for safety reasons, you may not be able to get this treatment if you have/are:

An Internal defibrillator/pacemaker or any other active electrical implant in the body

Any active conditions in the treatment area (e.g. rash)

History of skin disorders or very dry skin

Current or history of cancer (including pre-malignant moles)

Severe concurrent conditions (e.g. cardiac disorders)

Pregnant or nursing

An impaired immune system

A history of disease around the treatment area that’s stimulated by heat (e.g. herpes)

Poorly controlled endocrine disorders (e.g. diabetes)

Taking blood thinners

Had a face lift or eyelid surgery within the past 3 months

Had any resurfacing treatments or chemical peels within the past 3 months

Had any cosmetic injections within the past 2 weeks

Consumed any Advil, Tylenol or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs within the past week of your treatment

Any surgeries within the past 6 months

Treating over tattoos or permanent makeup

Excessively tanned

3. I have darker skin – can I still get this treatment done?

Yes. Our skin resurfacing treatments use technology that’s safe for all skin tones, even darker ones.

4. How many sessions will I need to see results?

Most patients receive 3-4 treatments per area. The exact number will depend on each individual person and the area being treated

5. How often/far apart should the treatments be?

Treatments are done 4 weeks apart.

6. Do I need to do anything to prepare for the treatment?

Make sure your skin is clean. Do not apply any lotions, creams, perfumes, powder, or makeup before your treatment session, and avoid tanning. Remove all jewelry around the area being treated. If you have excessive hair on the treatment area, shave it beforehand. It also helps to be prepared with information about your medical history—the technician will likely ask about it.

DURING THE TREATMENT

1. How long does a treatment session last?

Each session lasts 15-30 minutes, depending on the area being treated.

2. What does the treatment feel like?

You will feel tiny pins on your skin followed by a little zap. Your face will then feel warm, like a sunburn.

3. Will it be painful?

MOC health + beauty’s skin resurfacing treatments may be slightly uncomfortable, but not painful. You’ll feel intense heat, similar to the feeling of sunburn, and your face will look red right after the treatment. For more aggressive treatments, you may get a topical numbing cream to reduce any discomfort.

AFTER THE TREATMENT

1. How will I feel after my treatment?

Your skin will be red and feel warm afterward, like a sunburn. You can ease this by fanning or exposing the area to cool air. Within the first 24 hours, only apply topicals that have been recommended or prescribed by your treatment provider. The warm feeling should go away within 24 hours.

2. Is there downtime after the treatment? / How long is recovery time?

Yes, but only for 24 hours post-treatment (or up to 5 days for more aggressive treatments), unlike lasers or other treatments where recovery or downtime lasts up to 10 days. Your skin will be red and sensitive for the first 24 hours.. After 24 hours, you may put on makeup and resume your regular skin care routine. You should always apply sunscreen (at least SPF 30) to maintain your results and prevent sun damage. Avoid rigorous exercise and hot baths or massages on the treatment area for the first 2 days after your session. Make sure to keep your skin clean and protected from the sun. Avoid any sort of tanning.

3. How long will the results last and are they permanent?

After your final treatment, your results will continue to improve. However, one touch- up session may be needed approximately every 6 months, depending on how your skin responds.

4. Do I need to do anything after my treatment?

If your skin feels hot, you can use a fan to cool it down. Avoid touching or scratching the treatment area. For the first 24 hours, only apply products that are expressly recommended by your treatment provider, as there are many topicals that could cause severe irritation. After 24 hours, you should apply sunscreen (at least SPF 30), preferably one without chemicals. Also avoid rigorous exercise and hot baths or massages on the treatment area for the first 2 days after your session. Make sure to keep your skin clean and protected from the sun. Avoid any sort of tanning.

5. Can I put on makeup or lotion right after my treatment?

No. You should wait till 24 hours after your treatment to apply any makeup or lotion. Some topicals or skincare may be recommended by your treatment provider, and anything you apply should be done in-office or prescribed by them.
